Product Overview
Dedicated to prolific artist Francisco Díaz de León (1897-1975), a pioneering modernist engraver, illustrator, book designer, and photographer who was also an outstanding academic in the Academy of Fine Arts and the Academia de San Carlos and founder and director of the Open-air Painting School in Tlalpan, where his academic and artistic legacy influenced several generations of Mexican artists. The book was published on the occasion of an homonymous exhibition curated by Renata Blaisten and comprises a general analysis of the main topics oh his vast body of work (more than 4,000 print works), with numerous biographic, historic, political and social references for a better understanding of his sense of humor and infinite curiosity. Presented for the first time in this edition is the until now little-known work as a photographer, as well as sketches from the many books he illustrated, previously unpublished writings and a wide selection of his printmaking works. In 2008 Francisco Díaz de León's daughters Graziella and Susana donated their father's personal collection (more than 5000 graphic art pieces) and documental archive to the Andrés Blaisten Collection.
