In June of 1936, Viktoria must leave France and return to Stuttgart to help with the family business after her father's sudden death. The Nazis are trying to force Judith Rothmann, Viktoria's mother, out of the company. Meanwhile, Andrew Miller, an American businessman, arrives in Stuttgart. Not only does he offer the Rothmanns a solution to their problems, he also unsettles Viktoria's emotional life.
