In the summer of 1936, Pablo Uriel, a recently graduated doctor, is sent to the small town of La Rioja to work as a medical substitute. His professional beginnings coincide with the beginning of the Spanish civil war, so during the conflict, Paul and his brothers, like so many people with progressive ideas, are imprisoned without knowing the exact reason.
